Spence Notches 8th In Wolverines Win

First off the site as you can see is undergoing a rebranding as the Prospect Park is now the Rangers Prospect Report. The change is to try to help grow this place as the costs of covering the prospects keep rising.

Friday saw nine of the New York Rangers in counting games and one in an exhibition game. It seems strange to be playing exhibition games at this point of the season.

Tonight’s Star

Malcom Spence had a goal as his top-ranked Michigan Wolverines defeated Notre Dame 5-2 in a Big Ten conference matchup. In the second with the teams playing “4-on-4”, Spence scored his eighth goal of the season.

The freshman left wing received a pass right in the slot firing it past the Notre Dame goalie at 1:39 of the second.

But Spence needs to have more than just one shot in a game if he is to become more effective. For the season, he is now 8-3-13. Same two teams on Saturday as Michigan improved to 17-4 (8-3 Big Ten).

Rest of NCAA Prospects

Sean Barnhill was scoreless as his second-ranked Michigan State Spartans defeated Ohio State 6-2 in Big Ten play. Michigan State three goals in a 23 second span in the first period.

Barnhill would take an interference minor 23 seconds after the third Michigan State goal. Michigan State has won four straight games to improve to 15-4 (6-3 Big Ten).

Ty Henricks was scoreless as his sixth-ranked Western Michigan Broncos defeated seventh-ranked Denver 4-1 in NCHC play. Henricks did not record a start while playing as the starting left wing.

Western Michigan has won six straight games to improve to 15-6 (7-4 NCHC). Henricks is 7-9-16 on the season.

E. J. Emery was scoreless as his fourth-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks dropped a 3-2 overtime game to Colorado College in NCHC play. Emery has gone 17 games without a goal and nine without a point.

Brody Lamb and his Minnesota Golden Gophers were shutout 3-0 by ninth-ranked Penn State in Big Ten play. Lamb was credited with three shots but was a -2. Same two teams on Saturday with the game televised on the B1G Network starting at 6 PM EDT/3 PM PDT.

Rasmus Larsson was scoreless as his Robert Morris Colonials lost to RIT 4-1 in Atlantic Hockey play. Larsson was the third pair right defenseman in this contest.

OHL Play

Nathan Aspinall had a secondary assist as his Flint Firebirds defeated the Saginaw Sprirt 4-2. Aspinall earned his assist on Flint’s second goal of the game.

The OHL’s leading scorer improved to 23-33-56 on the season.

Evan Passmore was scoreless as his Barrie Colts defeated the Guelph Storm 6-3. Passmore was a +2 on one shot.

Artem Gonchar was scoreless as his Sudbury Wolves dropped a 4-2 decision to the Niagara IceDogs. Gonchar was a -2 on two shots as he has worked his way up to top defensive pair.

Exhibition Play

Drew Fortescue had a secondary assist as his 13th-ranked Boston College defeated Stonehill 8-2 in exhibition play. Fortescue earned his assist on the Eagles sixth goal.
