Lamb’s Goal Not Enough To Save Minnesota From Loss

Brody Lamb (University of Minnesota)

With just five New York Rangers taking to the ice on Saturday there really was not much to say about the play. There was exactly just one goal score for the entire offensive output by the prospects.

NCAA Action

Brody Lamb had a goal in a losing effort as his Minnesota Golden Gophers lost in overtime to Malcom Spence and his top-ranked Michigan Wolverines 3-2 in Big 10 play. The senior captain of the Gophers scored the teams second goal of the game via the power play.

When Lamb looks for his shot, he can be lethal as he was on this goal. But the biggest knock on his is a lack of consistent scoring.

This was his 10th goal but only his second power play goal. He has been shifted to first line center and he has been averaging 19:04 time on ice a game.

Because he is the best sniper among Rangers prospects then most likely he gets the NHL contract. Would feel better if he was better than a 10-10-20 season.

For sure with Minnesota having an 8-14-2 season that he will be available by the end of March to join Hartford. Since all it will cost is an Amatuer Tryout contract (ATO), then it will only cost expense money.

Malcom Spence (Michigan Wolverines)

Malcom Spence was scoreless for Michigan on zero shots and a +1. Zero shots from a guy who had 32 in the OHL last year is unacceptable.

E. J. Emery was scoreless as his fifth-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks fell to 10th-ranked Denver 3-2 in NCHC play. Emery did not record a start as he was the right side third pair defender.

The sophomore defenseman has now gone 20 games since his two goal game. There can be no clearer sign that he is not ready to leave school to turn pro.

Drew Fortescue was scoreless as his 13th-ranked Boston College Eagles dropped their second straight 4-3 decision to 14th-ranked Providence in Hockey East play. Fortescue was credited with two shots and a -1 with minor penalties for both Interference and Roughing.

Fortescuse is also not ready to make the jump to the NHL as he needs work on his offensive side. If he doesn’t then he will never amount to more than a third pair defenseman.

And the Rangers have plenty of those.

OHL Play

Evan Passmore (Barrie Colts)

Evan Passmore was scoreless as his Barrie Colts defeated the Oshawa Generals 4-2. Passmore did not take any shots and was credited with a +1.

Barrie extended their unbeaten in regulation streak to nine games (8-0-1-0). They lead the OHL’s Central Division by 12 points.

Did Not Play

Rasmus Larsson was a health scratch for Robert Morris as they played Army on Saturday. Sorry to say this but if you are a repeated healthy scratch on a hockey team that has a 5-12-2 record then chances are you are not professional material.
