There were nine New York Rangers prospects in action on Saturday night. Yet all combined for just one goal and no assists.
Please take a look here over at Elite Prospects where they have a list of all of those players considered to be “in the system”. Nathan Aspinall is at the top of said list with 24-38-62 but next on the list is Mikkel Eriksen who is 16-21-37.
29 players on that list have 10 or fewer goals, 34 have fewer than 30 points on that list. Even worse is 13 of them have fewer than 10 points.
Chris Drury says he is going to retool the Rangers but the question begs with what will he be able to do so?
Think about that out of 38 names only one of them offers the hope of being a top six forward. Among the defensemen, Artem Gonchar with his 10 goals has twice as many goals as the other four prospect defensemen combined.
The prospect pipeline is empty and no retool will repair it. The franchise badly needs a rebuild but the owner won’t do it. Why?
NCAA
Brody Lamb recorded his 11th goal but it was not enough to prevent Minnesota from losing to Sean Barnhill’s second-ranked Michigan State 3-2 in Big Ten play. Lamb got his goal with an even strength goal in the first period.
When you see goals like this one then you think that the Rangers ought to sign him. But the question is can he score consistently enough to make it to the NHL?
