Day two of the New York Rangers prospect postseason featured four players and mixed outcomes. The two NCAA teams advanced, while the CHL prospects split their games. Even so, the overall picture remains positive. A loss can still help the Rangers if it speeds up a prospect’s path to Hartford.
NCAA TOURNAMENT
Ty Henricks and Western Michigan Advance
Ty Henricks went scoreless as Western Michigan beat Minnesota State 3–1 in the Loveland Regional semifinal. The sophomore left wing had one shot and logged 15:22.
Western Michigan rarely wins shootouts, but they thrive in tight, defensive games. Henricks continues to show growth on both sides of the puck. His offensive breakout remains elusive, yet his reliability has value on a defending national champion.
Western Michigan faces Denver on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN+.

Malcom Spence and Michigan Move On
Malcom Spence was also scoreless as top‑seeded Michigan rolled past Bentley 5–1 in the Albany Regional. He recorded one shot and skated on the first line.
Michigan controlled the game from the opening faceoff and allowed only a late goal. Spence played a strong defensive game and created pressure around the Bentley crease.
Michigan advances to face Minnesota Duluth on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN+.

Boilard Shines in Eagles’ Loss
Raoul Boilard posted a 1‑1‑2 night in Cape Breton’s 6–2 loss to Newfoundland in Game 2. He earned a secondary assist on a power‑play goal that cut the deficit to 3–1.
Later in the second, Boilard scored his second goal of the playoffs. He forced a turnover at center ice, accelerated past the defense, and beat the goalie on the stick side. It was the kind of play missing for much of his season.

OHL
Gonchar Records Assist as Sudbury Drops Opener

Artem Gonchar had a secondary assist in Sudbury’s 6–2 loss to Brantford in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference series. Sudbury entered the postseason as the final qualifier, while Brantford owned the OHL’s best record. Even the Wolves’ marketing leaned into the “Against All Odds” theme.
A Brantford sweep would benefit the Rangers. Sudbury’s elimination by April 2 would allow Gonchar to sign an ATO and join Hartford quickly. That timeline could give him up to seven AHL games. Hartford sits six points out of a playoff spot, so those minutes would matter.
Game 2 is Sunday in Brantford.
