Rangers Prospects Shine in OHL Blowouts as Windsor and Flint Roll on Day Three

Saturday produced mixed results for six New York Rangers prospects on the third day of postseason play. Even so, the organization had reason to smile.

Three prospects sit inside the top five on the OHL playoff scoring list, holding the top two spots in points, first and third in assists, and first and second in power‑play assists.

Greentree Pushes Windsor to 2–0 Series Lead

Liam Greentree didn’t earn a star in Game 1, so he made sure he grabbed one Saturday. The Windsor captain was named first star in a 4–1 win over Guelph, giving the Spitfires a 2–0 series lead.

Greentree scored the game‑winner on a second‑period power play, snapping a shot over the goalie’s stick at 7:51.

He later iced the game with a shorthanded empty‑net goal in the third period. It was his second goal in two games, and Windsor never trailed again.

Greentree fired a game‑high nine shots and now sits at 3‑1‑4, good for fifth in OHL playoff scoring. The series shifts to Guelph for Games 3 and 4 starting Tuesday.

Battaglia and Aspinall Power Flint Blowout

Jacob Battaglia and Nathan Aspinall helped Flint crush Owen Sound 11–1 to even their series. Flint scored four times in the first period and never looked back.

Battaglia set up the Firebirds’ fourth goal for his fourth playoff assist. He added his third playoff goal early in the second period, firing a screened shot the goalie never saw.

Aspinall and Battaglia assisted on Flint’s sixth goal, a power‑play strike at 10:11. That gave Battaglia three points and Aspinall his first of the night.

After Flint made it 7–0, Aspinall scored the eighth goal when he buried a return pass on the right side.

Aspinall now sits at 2‑4‑6, second among OHL playoff scorers. Battaglia leads all scorers at 3‑6‑9. Game 3 is Monday in Owen Sound.

Passmore and Barrie Fall in Overtime

Evan Passmore went scoreless as Barrie lost 4–3 in overtime to Niagara, tying the series 1–1. The result wasn’t surprising, as Barrie also lost to Niagara at home last weekend.

The series now shifts to Niagara for Games 3 and 4, and Barrie has surrendered home‑ice advantage. Passmore needs to assert himself more, especially as a first‑pair defender wearing an “A.”

Emery Helps North Dakota Reach Frozen Four

E.J. Emery didn’t record a point but posted a +4 as North Dakota shut out Quinnipiac 5–0 to reach the Frozen Four. He moved to the second pair on the right side and delivered the steady, playoff‑ready game coaches want.

North Dakota, the tournament’s second overall seed, now heads to Paradise, Nevada. They will face Wisconsin on April 9.

Barnhill and Michigan State Eliminated

Sean Barnhill was scoreless as Michigan State fell 4–3 in overtime to Wisconsin in the Worcester Regional. The Spartans became the first No. 1 seed eliminated.

Barnhill had two shots and finishes his freshman season with 0‑4‑4 in 37 games and a +8 rating. He averaged 14:11 per game, mostly on the right side of the third pair.
