Saturday saw a lot of interesting hockey games for the fans. The New York Rangers had eight prospects in action with a better increase in performance.
First Star Nathan Aspinall Flint Firebirds
Nathan Aspinall earned third star honors for the second straight night as his Flint Firebirds defeated the Sarnia Sting 6-3 in OHL play. Aspinall had a three assist game to give him five assists in his last two games.
The Flint captain started with a secondary assist on the Firebirds first goal coming at 9:04 of the first period. He would add a second secondary assist on the Firebirds second goal.
In the third period with his team up 4-2, Aspinall helped put the game away when Jimmy Lommbardi put the rebound of an Aspinall shot into the Sarnia goal. The Firebirds were on a power play and with Aspinall playing on the right point, he fired a shot that hit the post and dropped right at Lombardi’s feet.
For Aspinall the three assist game marked the fourth time he has done that this season. The leading scorer among Rangers prospects and the OHL, Aspinall improves to a career best 24-43-67.
The win bounced Flint back into first place in the OHL’s West Division.

Second Star Brody Lamb Minnesota Golden Gophers
Brody Lamb and his Minnesota Golden Gophers made it two straight wins over seventh-ranked Wisconsin with a 8-4 win in Big Ten play. Lamb was 1-1-2 as the Minnesota captain got his team going by scoring their first goal of the game.
Lamb scored on the power play at 5:16 of the first period giving Minnesota a 1-0 lead. Enjoy this highlight as with Lamb out on the right point, he called for the puck to be sent to the left point.
While the puck was headed to the left point, Lamb started skating in from the right side where he was wide open. He got the puck and then fired a wrist shot that beat the Wisconsin goalie over his glove.

If the Rangers do give Lamb a contract it is because of the way he can shoot the puck. He is a natural sniper who if he develops some consistency could do some serious damage.
That was Lamb’s third power play goal and 12th goal overall. With his team up 2-1, Lamb would earn the primary assist on Minnesota’s second power play goal of the first period.
