Sunday hockey for three New York Rangers prospects and like yesterday it was super quiet. Just a secondary assist from the Rangers prospects in terms of production.
QMJHL
Raoul Boilard earned the only point of the day as his Cape Breton Eagles lost via the shootout to the Charlottetown Islanders 4-3. Boilard earned a secondary assist on the Eagles third goal, a power play goal which at the time gave them a 3-2 lead.
How the Eagles earned that power play was caused by an almost never called penalty. Islanders goalie Jack Carter was called for “Participating in the play over the center red line or outside of the restricted zone (trapezoid)”.
It is an almost never called penalty but in this case led to a Eagles goal.
Boilard would score the only goal his team would earn in the shootout period as they lost that one 2-1. For the Eagle forward he would go 7-3 on his faceoffs.
That assist was just his fourth point as an Eagle (2-2-4) in ten games. On the season Boilard is 9-18-27 which is third among the prospect scorers.
OHL
Artem Gonchar was held scoreless as his Sudbury Wolves (OHL) defeated the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL) in overtime 4-3. This was part of the OHL/QMJHL challenge to expose fans to different types of hockey and different teams.
Sudbury likes it as they are 2-0 against QMJHL teams. Gonchar was credited with three shots and a -1 for the game.
Evan Passmore was scoreless as his Barrie Colts were smoked 7-1 by the Branford Bulldogs. The loss ended a 12 games without a regulation loss (11-0-1-0) streak that the Colts had going.
Branford is the OHL’s Eastern Conference leaders as they opened up a five point lead over the Colts who lead the OHL’s Central Division.
