Three Rangers prospects were supposed to play on Tuesday but only two actually did. The two who played didn’t do too bad for themselves.
Artem Gonchar had a goal as his Sudbury Wolves held off the Kitchener Rangers 4-3 in OHL play. Gonchar recored his ninth goal of the season as part of a three goal outburst by Sudbury in the first period.
The young Russian defender picked right up from where he left off before the holiday break. He extended his scoring streak to a career best six games (3-5-8).
His goal was the third of the three first-period goals. This one was an even strength goal at 14:03 of the period.
It doesn’t even look like he got anything on the shot but rather he placed it perfectly.

Just loved how Gonchar saw he was wide open, called for the puck and came in closer to take the shot. This is a young man who is one of the best surprises the Rangers have had in years.
The nine goals are a personal high in any league and he is two points from tying his personal best there. The projections have him with a 19-29-48 season which would guarantee him a Ranger’s contract this summer.
Raoul Boilard was scoreless as his Shawinigan Cataractes defeated Boilard’s former team the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 3-2 in QMJHL play. Boilard was 17-7 on his faceoffs and registered three hits.
The faceoff numbers are getting really hard to ignore as with Tuesday’s effort. Boilard is now with a 65.0% win rate one of the very best in the QMJHL.
Did Not Play
Rasmus Larsson was a healthy scratch for his Robert Morris Colonials. He has not played since Novmember 22nd having sat the last five games.
Hopefully Larsson will use this season as a redshirt and rebound next year.
