Nathan Aspinall saw his scoring streak end at 13 games as he was held scoreless on Saturday evening. Aspinall’s Flint Firebirds lost in overtime to the Sarnia Sting 3-2 in OHL play.
The captain of the Firebirds was held off the scoresheet for the first time since November 12th. Against the Sting, Aspinall was credited with five shots on a -2 and a cross-checking minor.
Aspinall still leads all Rangers prospects and the OHL in scoring with a 22-26-48 record.
E. J. Emery was scoreless as his sixth-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks defeated Omaha 3-1 in NCHC play. Emery was credited with three shots and was called for two minor penalties.
The Rangers 2024 first round pick ends his first half with a 2-2-4 record. Next up for Emery is attending the preliminary camp for the 2026 USA Under-20 team starting on Monday.
The selection camp for the Under-20 team is Emery’s second but hard to expect him to make the team. On North Dakota, Emery has been a third pair defenseman which makes his chances of making the team slim.
Raoul Boilard did not score but he still had a solid effort as his Shawingian Cataractes lost to the Chicoutimi Saguenéens 4-3. Defensively Boilard was very good as he was 10-2 on his faceoffs and was credited with four hits.
The Rangers can always use a prospect who wins 67.7% of his faceoffs.
Evan Passmore was scoreless as his Barrie Colts edged the Niagara IceDogs 2-1. Passmore was called for a check from behind minor and was a +1.
Now he has no offense to speak of, his team must love him because he is on the first defensive pair. Passmore also wears an “A” as a team leader so he has to be doing something right.
