Only three New York Rangers prospects were in action Sunday, on a day that was supposed to feature a marquee OHL matchup between Nathan Aspinall’s Flint Firebirds and Liam Greentree’s Windsor Spitfires.
Greentree was sidelined by illness, a loss that proved costly for Windsor.
The game carried major implications in the OHL’s West Division race, with first place on the line and both teams trying to close ground on conference‑leading Kitchener. Flint and Windsor have traded the division lead repeatedly over the past two weeks.
Aspinall delivered again, picking up a primary assist as the Firebirds edged the Spitfires 2–1. His setup came on Jacob Battaglia’s power‑play goal at 14:53 of the first period, the lone goal of the opening frame. The assist was Aspinall’s 51st of the season, moving him into a three‑way tie for the OHL lead.
Aspinall continues to lead all Rangers prospects in scoring with a 28‑51‑79 line and is second overall in the OHL. Flint’s win pushed the Firebirds back into first place in the West Division, one point ahead of Windsor.
Sudbury defenseman Artem Gonchar scored his 12th goal of the season, but the Wolves fell 4–2 to the London Knights. Sudbury missed a chance to clinch a playoff berth in what became a frustrating loss.
Gonchar’s goal came late, with the Wolves trailing 4–1 in the third period. The Rangers prospect beat the London goaltender with a point shot to cut the deficit.

He improved to 12‑30‑42 on the season, ranking ninth among OHL defensemen in scoring.
