Spence and Michigan Survive Late Push
Malcom Spence and his Michigan Wolverines held off Minnesota‑Duluth in a tense 4–3 win to claim the Albany Regional. Michigan led 3–1 entering the third period, but Minnesota‑Duluth mounted a strong comeback. Spence set up the game‑winning goal with a quick touch pass that sent Jayden Perron on a rush. Perron finished the play for Michigan’s fourth goal.

That assist fit Spence’s recent trend of making key plays in big moments. He now has 14 assists and 24 points this season. Michigan improved to 31‑7‑1 and will face Denver in Paradise, Nevada, at the Frozen Four on April 9.
Henricks and Western Michigan Eliminated
Ty Henricks and Western Michigan were eliminated after a 6–2 loss to Denver in the Loveland Regional final. The result was not surprising, since Denver beat Western Michigan in the NCHC tournament earlier this month. The concern was Henricks’ quiet performance. A 6‑foot‑5 forward should not disappear in a game of this magnitude.
Henricks finished his sophomore season with 9 goals and 16 assists for 25 points. Next year, Western Michigan will need more consistent offense from him, along with more physical play.
Gonchar and Sudbury Fall Again
Artem Gonchar and the Sudbury Wolves dropped Game 2 of their OHL playoff series, losing 4–2 to Brantford. The Wolves now trail the series 0–2. Gonchar recorded a secondary assist and led all players with seven shots on goal.
Sudbury is overmatched by Brantford’s deeper lineup, but Gonchar continues to push the pace. The Rangers’ 2025 third‑round pick is doing everything he can to keep his team competitive. Once Sudbury’s season ends, the Rangers should move quickly to bring him to Hartford.
