And Then There Were Just Two Left

Liam Greentree (Windsor Spitfires)

Greentree and Windsor Sweep Flint in Four

Expectations for this series were way off. Many expected a long, seven‑game fight. Instead, Windsor rolled through four games and sent Flint home early.

Liam Greentree and the Spitfires closed out Nathan Aspinall and Jacob Battaglia’s season with a 5–3 win in Game 4. The sweep sends Windsor to the Western Conference final.

Greentree had the primary assist on the goal that sealed the series at 19:27. He was quiet overall, finishing the four games with 1‑2‑3 after a strong first round.

Even more surprising was that Greentree the captain of the Spitfires was starting on their third line. The question is Greentree playing hurt or was it something else here?

The turning point came in Game 2. Flint led after two periods but gave up three goals in the third. The Firebirds never recovered.

Battaglia set up Flint’s first goal in Game 4 at 9:22. It was their only lead. Windsor answered with three straight goals for a 3–1 edge.

Aspinall refused to go quietly. He scored early in the third with a snap shot through a screen to cut the lead to 3–2.

That was his ninth goal of the playoffs. Windsor responded again to make it 4–2, but Aspinall struck on the power play to make it 4–3.

Battaglia earned a secondary assist on Aspinall’s tenth playoff goal. Flint pushed late, but Greentree set up the empty‑netter that ended the series.

Aspinall earned the game’s second star and was named the OHL’s third star for the night. The final score in Flint: Windsor 5, Flint 3.

Aspinall finished the postseason with 10‑7‑17. Battaglia posted 5‑13‑18. Both will age out of the OHL and head to Hartford next season.

Aspinall was the Rangers’ top prospect in the regular season with 31‑61‑94. Battaglia had 26‑22‑48 between Kingston and Flint.

With just two games left for the Hartford Wolfpack season, not expecting either Aspinall or Battaglia to get a call up.

Passmore Quiet as Barrie Takes 3–1 Lead

Evan Passmore was held off the scoresheet as Barrie built a 3–0 lead and held on for a 3–2 win over Ottawa. The Game 4 victory gave the Colts a 3–1 edge in the Eastern semifinal.

Passmore had one shot and a minor for holding. Barrie returns home for Game 5 on Saturday with a chance to advance.
